EGL最初仅为OpenGL ES开发。EGL1.4(2008年发布)增加了对桌面OpenGL的支持。然而,当时,"遗留"GL上下文、前向兼容上下文和OpenGL配置文件(如核心和兼容性)之间的区别还不存在,因此EGL 1.4不包括请求任何这些内容的方法。你唯一可以依赖的是,你得到了一个与"遗留"GL 1.x/2.x兼容的GL上下文。不过,这并不意味着它也不能创建更高版本的兼容性配置文件——你就是不能依赖它,也没有办法控制它。
